UKRAINE RELIEF
The catastrophic events that are continuing to unfold in Ukraine have left countless individuals without home, food, shelter, or family. Romania shares an almost 400-mile border with Ukraine and is expecting as many as 500,000 refugees. Iași, where Wurmbrand Academy is located, is one of the closest major cities within the EU and NATO to the current conflict.
The school and its community are positioned to play a life-altering role in the refugee crisis. Already, we have received families, women, and children and provided them with housing, food, daily essentials, and more. Wurmbrand Academy is offering free schooling to displaced Ukrainian children and will be providing further support to the families of these children through housing security and aid in seeking work. In addition, the school is serving as an aid collection center for clothing, food, medicine, hygiene products, and other essential items.
From our Headmaster:
“There are two buses with refugees that are going to arrive today in Iași and we are going to provide them with lodging, food, hygiene products, etc. They are evangelicals, mainly women and children. We have already been to the border, and we have some refugees in our homes already. Some of them are in transit and some are going to stay long term. There is a 12 mile long wait at the border. One family who we have been waiting for left the car behind and the husband is walking his wife and daughter to the border and then he is heading back. Here are some of the things we need: food, bed sheets, bills for heating and electric, medical supplies, school supplies for the children and SIM cards for phones.”
