WURMBRAND ACADEMY
Over twenty years ago, in the midst of a country ravaged by the legacy of Communism, spiritual darkness, and a fractured culture, a group of teachers came together with a vision to form a school that would provide both quality education and Christian teaching. Though consistently ranked as one of the highest-performing schools in Romania, Wurmbrand Academy has endured hostility and persecution due to its beliefs but has never wavered in faithfulness. Today, many of those first students can still be found in the school’s classrooms - now in the roles of teachers and mentors.
As a result of its academic excellence and uncommon dedication to children and their families, Wurmbrand Academy now attracts hundreds of students of all faith, social, and economic backgrounds. A Biblical worldview continues to be the most essential aspect of the curriculum, and each child is valuable not only academically but because of the eternal value that the Lord has placed on them. The school’s leadership and faculty regard their students as the key to Romania’s future. Their community has been transformed through this child-focused approach towards empowering youth and families.
How is Wurmbrand Academy different from other Romanian schools?
Wurmbrand Academy provides so much more than just a distinguished education.
Romania, specifically the region in which the school is located, remains one of the most poverty-stricken areas within the European Union. Beyond holistic education and mentorship to students, Wurmbrand Academy provides support and job opportunities for teachers, administrative staff, and more.
Today, Wurmbrand Academy has over six hundred enrolled students and close to one hundred faculty members. It is our hope that our students will follow the example of Richard Wurmbrand, carrying light into the darkness wherever they may go.
Wurmbrand Academy faces daily struggles to provide all of these resources, while still being financially sustainable. Many families they serve struggle to acquire basic needs like food and shelter.
